The former secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council:

Iran Has Shown Restraint in Reply to Trump’s Letter

The former secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council said Tehran has exercised self-restraint in its response to a letter from US President Donald Trump.

Speaking to Tasnim about the US’ military threats and psychological operations against Iran, Ali Shamkhani said on Friday that the US has not adopted any new approach, as it has employed a package of measures including military threats, psychological operation, interference in the internal affairs of Iran, and mobilization of its allies against Iran since the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

Iran has been familiar with the US’ hostile policies for over 45 years, he said.

Shamkhani stated that Iran would take any threat seriously, but not for submission.

“The Iranian nation has never approved and will never approve of surrender. We believe that the US has no option but to pursue a fair logic in dialogue with Iran,” he added.

On Iran’s reply to Trump’s letter, Shamkhani said Iran has shown self-restraint in its response.

He noted that Iran has sent its reply via Oman, while the US had expected another channel. “Iran preferred to send its reply via Oman,” he said.

Asked about the contents of Iran’s letter, Shamkhani said Iran and the US have been already engaged in indirect talks.

Iran has made it clear in its reply that it is ready for indirect negotiations and will be prepared to take the next steps of talks, provided that the negotiations are held on equal standing, he explained.
