Leader calls on Iranians to join the tree planting movement to protect the environment
Ayatollah Khamenei says all people should participate in the righteous deed of tree plantation to make the living environment clean and healthy.
Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has called on all people to actively participate in a tree planting movement that started during the previous government.
After planting seedlings on Wednesday to mark National Tree Planting Day, Ayatollah Khamenei highlighted the environmental and economic benefits of afforestation, describing it as a “profitable investment, forward-thinking action, and a means of wealth generation.”
The plan to plant one billion trees over four years, which began last year, is practical and government agencies must help this goal materialize, the Leader said.
“Planting trees is not just for young people but all people of different ages should show enthusiasm and motivation for this important, great, necessary and beautiful work,” he added.
Highlighting the role of forests and farmland in improving air quality, Ayatollah Khamenei said, “Trees and plants not only purify the air but also enhance the beauty and vitality of both nature and the human spirit.”
Calling afforestation a righteous and good deed, the Leader at the same time warned against deforestation and converting agricultural land, saying that cutting down trees is “a harm and risky action” and that measures must be taken to “prevent the destruction of forests and the misuse of farmland.”
March 5 is celebrated annually as National Tree Planting Day in Iran, with common people, officials and government agencies taking part in planting saplings.
Pezeshkian: People should help improve the environment by planting trees
On Wednesday, President Masoud Pezeshkian also marked the day by planting saplings at the presidential compound.
Following the ceremony, Pezeshkian said that clean air and a healthy atmosphere is possible if “we try to preserve our living environment, prevent its destruction, and develop green space.”
The president further expressed hope that “the people will help improve greenery for themselves and their children by planting trees,” which he said can also prevent soil destruction and erosion that cause floods.
