Tehran(KNA) : The beast weighed a jaw-dropping 600kg was removed from the Katherine River.

One of the biggest saltwater crocodiles in Australia has finally been captured by a team who have been hunting him for a DECADE.

The monster measures 16ft - the same length as a large car, and weighs a whopping 600kg had been on the run from authorities since they first spotted him in 2010.

To protect the locals, the 60-year-old crocodile was removed from the Katherine River and moved to live out the rest of its days in a crocodile farm.

It was a close contender to the largest crocodile ever captured in Australia, which measured 21ft - which as caught and killed in 1974, also in the Northern Territory.

But this capture wasn't a simple task. The rangers had been tracking the creature since they first spotted it in 2010.

The reptile, which is the same length as a Volkswagen Beetle, was worryingly near the town of Katherine, just 37 miles downstream.

Tracey Duldig, acting director of the Department of Tourism and Culture said: "He was removed downstream from Katherine to help prevent human interaction in the more populated areas,"

"He has been taken to a croc farm in the Katherine region." Known for its exotic and sometimes dangerous wildlife such as sharks and Tasmanian devils, Australia is home to over 150,000 crocodiles.

For the protection of residents and tourists, the Australian authorities reguarly track and move crocodiles to secure enclosures.
